Small valleys 400 metres above sea level are protected like treasure by mountains between 700 and 1100metres, it is perhaps these valleys which are really the treasure.

The winter cold with their occasional snows, very little rain and dry hot days of summer, cooled by the breezes from the not too distant Mediterranean through the great doors of our valleys and the source fo the Siurana river, without doubts allows the valleys to produce the best “arbequina” olives and the best “marcona” almonds in the world, also in the skirts on the mountains are the wonderful “negreta” hazelnuts which are the real life and treasure of the area.

More than 800 years ago, The Carthusian Monks come to this site because of the words of a shepherd who knew of a place in the “Sierra of Montsant” where the angels came down and returned to heaven. This place was full of magic, near to God and the Carthusians decided to install themselves for the first time on the iberic peninsula and form the Priorat, which means the domain of the Prior of the Carthusian Monastery of Santa Maria of Scala Dei. (Scala Dei means, roughly translated, the stairway to God)

Priorat Natur, S.L born in our county at 1997 to prepare and preserve all the local products in the way that people here have been making since the tenth centuary, when the monks first came here.
